SPORT
At Marian Catholic College, sport is organised within the constraints of other college activities to involve as many students as possible. Representative sport and extra-curricular sport, as well as other activities outside of school time, offer students chances to further their own interests and talents, and elite athletes to progress to state or national level.
COLLEGE ATHLETICS, CROSS COUNTRY AND SWIMMING
All students are encouraged to participate in these college events, and sport and PD/H/PE lessons are used to prepare for them.
BORDER INDEPENDENT SECONDARY SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION ATHLETICS, CROSS COUNTRY AND SWIMMING (BISSA).
Students compete in these carnivals which the Diocese uses to help choose teams to compete at the Combined Catholic Colleges championships and from there, for those who qualify, to NSW state all-schools level.
COMBINED CATHOLIC COLLEGES COMPETITIONS (CCC) ATHLETICS, SWIMMING, CROSS-COUNTRY, BASKETBALL, NETBALL, TOUCH FOOTBALL, SOCCER, GOLF, HOCKEY, AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL.
Boys' and Girls' teams and individual students compete in a variety of sports in Combined Catholic Colleges events, all of which lead to State all-school championships for those who are successful.
COCHRANE AND RIVERINA CUP - RUGBY LEAGUE
School teams (Years 7 and 8 and Years 9 and 10 ) participate with other secondary schools in the region. Teams also compete in the Brumbies 10’s Day.
BILL TURNER CUP - SOCCER.
The school's under 15 team takes part in this local/regional competition.
CUDMORE SHIELD - CRICKET
Junior and Senior boys' teams compete in this regional competition.
BERG AND DOWNIE SHIELD – CRICKET
NSW wide knockout competition in which our teams compete.
MARIAN CATHOLIC COLLEGE VERSUS GRIFFITH HIGH SCHOOL SPORTING CHALLENGE.
All students in the junior school play a variety of sports against Griffith High School to win the Dry Tech Shield.
college teams participate against other schools in the region in a variety of other competitions.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION / PASTORAL CARE
- Retreats of three days are available to Year 11 and 12.
- Single day reflective and community building “Bonding Days” are run for Years 7 –10.
- Prefects, House Leaders, Student Council members and Peer Support Leaders participate in leadership training.
- School Masses and liturgies are prepared and run by students in different year level groups.
- Charity fundraising is done by student council members (Legacy, Amnesty etc) and all students donate to Mercy and Marist Missions, Project Compassion and St Vincent de Paul.
- Visiting speakers focus on social justice issues.
ENGLISH
The school has a record of wide participation and very successful achievement in public speaking competitions including the Lions Youth of the Year, Rostrum Voice of Youth and Apex Public Speaking. School debating teams participate in the Griffith City Council sponsored “Tri School Debate” and in the Commonwealth Open Debating Competition conducted by the NSW Department of Education.
